Natural fibres reward a little attention. Cared for well, every piece here will stay soft and keep its shape for many seasons.
Every listing gives the exact composition and care for that piece in English. Where its notes differ from the general guidance below, follow the listing.
Wool
Warm, breathable and naturally resistant to odour, wool rarely needs washing. Air it out between wears instead. Coats should never be machine washed: brush gently with a soft garment brush, and dry clean only when truly needed. Hang coats on a broad hanger; fold knitwear.
Cashmere
Lighter and softer than wool. Hand wash in cool water with a wool detergent, press out the water without wringing, and dry flat on a towel. Always fold to store, with cedar to keep moths away. A little pilling is natural; lift it with a cashmere comb.
Alpaca
Warmer than wool and gentle on sensitive skin. Brush lightly, hand wash cold only when needed, and always dry flat — never hang it wet.
Rare fibres: yak, camel hair, mohair, angora
Each of these fibres is finer and more delicate than wool. As a rule, dry clean coats and hand wash knits gently in cool water.
Silk
Cool, smooth and breathable. Hand wash cold with a gentle detergent, or dry clean. Dry away from direct sunlight, and press on a low setting from the reverse side.
Leather
Leather softens and gains character with wear. Keep it away from heat and rain, wipe with a dry cloth, and condition once or twice a season. Hang on a broad hanger, and leave professional cleaning to a leather specialist.
